We believe core literacy and numeracy skills are the bedrock of every student's future. We will provide more resources to bring the highest quality, evidence-based instructional practices to Delta’s students. Strong foundations are essential to ensure students can become proficient when more challenging and complex learning is presented.
Our Action Plans
Strong Reading. Strong Math. A Stronger Foundation.
Every student needs strong reading and math skills to succeed in school and in life. As students move through school, the work gets harder. When students struggle with the basics, it becomes harder to keep up, harder to learn and often harder to stay confident. A One Delta School Board team will make strong literacy and numeracy a priority in every classroom. We will:
- Strengthen reading and math instruction by supporting proven, research-informed approaches that help students build strong foundations.
- Identify students who are struggling early and make sure they receive timely, targeted support before they fall further behind.
- Expand support for students who need extra help, including older students who are struggling with the reading and math they need to succeed in high school.
- Give teachers the training, resources and expert support they need to strengthen literacy and numeracy instruction in their classrooms.
- Work with families and PACs to build stronger connections between what students are learning at school and how families can support learning at home.
- Build on programs and approaches that are working in Delta and continue to improve how we support student learning.
Our goal is simple: every Delta student should leave each grade with the reading and math skills they need for what comes next.
Safe Schools Strengthen Communities
We support proven partnerships that help students feel safe, supported and connected. Delta's unique School Liaison Officer Program brings together schools, families and police to build positive relationships, provide education on emerging challenges and promote early interventions that support student wellbeing and safety.
Our Action Plans
Safe Routes to School: A Plan for Safer School Zones
A One Delta School Board team will work with families, schools and community partners to make it safer and easier for children to get to school. We will:
- Create a simple process with the City of Delta, Delta Police, parents and students to quickly identify and effectively address school-zone safety concerns.
- Identify safer walking and cycling routes and practical improvements such as safer crossings, better sightlines and missing sidewalks.
- Reduce congestion at school entrances by supporting safe drop-off locations and encouraging families who can do so to walk the last part of the journey.
- Support Walk Zones and walking school bus initiatives so more children can safely walk with family, friends and supervised groups.
- Promote age-appropriate road safety education and enforcement of the rules around e-bikes and e-scooters, while working together to build on Delta's existing Vision Zero strategy.
Our goal is simple: every child should have a safe route to school.
Safe Schools. Stronger Communities.
Every child deserves to feel safe, connected and supported at school. Schools are more than places where students learn. They are places where young people build relationships, find trusted adults and develop the skills and confidence they need for their future. As the world becomes more complex, schools, families and community partners need to work together to recognize risks early and help young people stay connected and on track. A One Delta School Board team will strengthen the partnerships and supports that help keep students safe and connected. We will:
- Maintain and strengthen Delta's School Liaison Officer Program and its partnerships with schools, families and students.
- Expand prevention and early intervention so students can get help before problems become crises.
- Strengthen parent education and community partnerships so families know the risks, recognize warning signs and know where to turn for help.
- Build on increased counselling and wrap-around supports for students who need additional help.
- Work with community agencies to connect students and families with the right support at the right time.
Our goal is simple: safe, connected students who are supported to succeed.
Every Student Deserves to Succeed
We believe every young person in Delta should be held to high expectations and graduate with the skills, confidence and opportunities they need for lifelong success. That means removing the barriers - social, economic and systemic - that stand between any learner and achieving their full potential.
Our Action Plans
Future-Ready Students: Preparing for the Future of Work
The world of work is changing now. AI, automation and new technologies are already changing how people work and the skills employers need. Our schools need to keep pace. Students need more than academic knowledge. They need the digital skills, problem-solving, adaptability, creativity and hands-on experience to succeed in a changing world. A One Delta School Board team will make sure Delta students are prepared for the future of work. We will:
- Build future-ready skills through technology, digital learning, problem-solving and hands-on education.
- Connect students with the world of work through local employers, co-ops, apprenticeships and real-world experiences.
- Expand pathways to post-secondary education and careers, including opportunities to earn credits and training while still in high school.
- Modernize Tech-Ed programs and school workshops with current technology, including robotics, digital fabrication and sustainable energy systems.
- Strengthen partnerships with employers and post-secondary institutions so students understand the opportunities available and the skills they need.
Our goal is simple: prepare every student with the skills, experience and confidence to succeed in the world of work.
Helping Every Learner Soar
Delta has one of the strongest public school systems in B.C., with high graduation rates and a tradition of strong student achievement. We should be proud of that - and keep raising the bar. Graduation is an important milestone, but success is about more than getting a diploma. Students should leave school with the knowledge, confidence, skills and opportunities to take their next step, whether that is university, college, a career, the arts, trades or another pathway. A One Delta School Board team will set high expectations while giving students the support and opportunities they need to soar. We will:
- Raise the bar for learning by strengthening academic rigour, critical thinking, creativity and opportunities for students to excel.
- Expand opportunities for enrichment in areas such as STEM, the arts, writing and other areas where students can develop their strengths and interests.
- Create clearer pathways after graduation through stronger connections with universities, colleges, employers and other post-secondary opportunities.
- Give students more real-world experience through dual credits, co-ops, internships, mentorships and community partnerships.
- Prepare students for tomorrow by building digital literacy and responsible use of emerging technologies, including AI, while supporting their well-being and confidence.
Our goal is simple: keep Delta's high standards high and give every learner the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Healthy Students are Ready Students
We believe that physical and mental wellbeing are inseparable from academic success. We will expand the support that helps students manage life's challenges, so that when they walk through the school door, they are resilient, healthy and ready to learn.
Our Action Plans
Beyond the Phone: Building Skills for Life
Putting phones away during class helps students focus. But the bigger opportunity is helping young people build the interpersonal skills they need for life. Students need to learn how to listen, communicate face-to-face, work with others, manage disagreements and build healthy relationships. These skills matter in school, at work and in every part of life. A One Delta School Board team will work with families, staff and students to build healthy technology habits and stronger real-world connections. We will:
- Support age-appropriate cellphone restrictions during instructional time so students can focus on learning.
- Build digital citizenship and healthy technology habits into student learning.
- Help parents understand how to support healthy technology use at home.
- Create more opportunities for face-to-face connection through outdoor learning, athletics, arts, clubs and hands-on activities.
- Strengthen interpersonal skills such as communication, teamwork, empathy and problem-solving.
Our goal is simple: help students use technology wisely while building the confidence and relationship skills they need to succeed in the real world.
Fit for Life: Building Healthy Habits That Last
Every child should have the skills, confidence and opportunities to stay active - whether they play competitive sports or simply enjoy being outside. Too many young people become less active as they get older, especially when PE, organized sports and structured activities fall away. A One Delta School Board team will work with Delta Parks & Recreation, community sport, schools and families to make it easier for young people to stay active throughout their lives. We will:
- Connect schools, community sport and Parks & Recreation Youth and Kids passes so students have a clear path to staying active as they grow.
- Build skills for lifelong activity through PE, outdoor play and activities that students can enjoy on their own or with friends.
- Make recreation easier to access for older students and recent graduates through affordable programs and facilities.
- Create more opportunities to try different activities, not just organized team sports.
- Give families simple, practical ways to stay active through parks, recreation facilities, outdoor activities and free resources.
Our goal is simple: help every young person build healthy habits they can carry into adulthood.
One Place to Turn: Better Support for Delta Youth
For too long, Delta youth and families have had to piece together support from different places. We already have community-led youth hub pilots underway in North and South Delta. Now it is time to strengthen them and build a model young people can count on. A One Delta School Board and Council team will commit the staff time, resources and partnerships needed to make youth support more seamless, coordinated and sustainable. We will:
- Strengthen the existing North Delta Youth Hub and South Delta pop-up and work toward dependable access in both communities.
- Bring services together in one welcoming place so young people can more easily access counselling, mental health and wellness supports, employment help, life skills and other resources.
- Commit staff time and resources to help community organizations coordinate services and move beyond the pilot stage.
- Connect schools, the City, Delta Police Youth Division, health providers and community organizations so youth don't have to navigate the system on their own.
- Build a sustainable Delta model that can grow with the community and take advantage of future provincial funding opportunities.
Our goal is simple: one place to turn, close to home, where Delta youth can find connection, support and a path forward.
Great Educators and Support Staff Build Strong Schools
Student success begins with exceptional people. We believe attracting, supporting and retaining outstanding School District leadership, teachers and support staff is one of the most important responsibilities of a Board of Education. That means advocating for adequate funding, investing in professional learning and ensuring staff have the support and tools they need to meet the increasingly complex needs of today’s classrooms.
Our Action Plans
Support Staff: Essential to Student Success
Every school day depends on the people who keep our schools safe, welcoming and ready for learning. Custodians, office staff, Education Assistants, Child and Youth Care Workers, grounds staff and tradespeople all play an essential role in helping students and teachers succeed. A One Delta School Board team will strengthen its partnership with support staff and invest in the people who support our schools every day. We will:
- Strengthen recruitment and retention so schools have the consistent staff students and teachers rely on.
- Support mentorship and targeted training so staff have the skills and confidence to do their best work.
- Improve workload planning and scheduling to provide greater consistency for staff and students.
- Strengthen workplace safety through clear reporting, prevention and timely action when concerns arise.
- Advocate for sustainable provincial funding to address staffing pressures and ensure students get the support they need.
Our goal is simple: well-supported staff, well-run schools and consistent support for every student.
Supporting Educators: Investing in the People Who Help Students Learn
Great schools depend on great teachers, support staff and school leaders. When educators have the time, training, resources and support they need, students benefit. A One Delta School Board team will invest in the people who help students learn and create a positive, healthy environment where educators want to work and stay. We will:
- Protect classroom funding by advocating for full provincial funding of negotiated wages and benefits so increases do not come at the expense of teaching and learning.
- Put student learning first when setting local budget priorities and allocating district resources, in alignment with the Vision for 2030.
- Invest in practical professional learning including classroom-focused training, mentoring, coaching and leadership development.
- Strengthen support for new educators through better induction, peer mentoring and culturally informed supports that help build and retain a strong local workforce.
- Protect educator time by reducing unnecessary administrative work so teachers have more time to plan, teach and support students.
- Support staff health, well-being and safety through mental health supports, workload management and practical workplace improvements.
- Make sure classrooms have the resources they need including current learning materials, technology and access to support staff.
Our goal is simple: give educators the support they need to do their best work so every student can thrive.
Effective Management Builds Public Trust
We believe effective governance and stewardship of resources begins with listening to our community and education partners and making decisions that reflect shared priorities. By aligning budgets, resources and long-term planning with the district's strategic goals, we can strengthen student outcomes, improve operational efficiency and ensure sustainable stewardship of public resources.
Our Action Plans
Students First: Experienced Leadership That Gets Results
Our Trustee team have a strong record of responsible budgeting and fiscal oversight. We will build on that experience by keeping student learning at the centre of every major decision. A One Delta School Board team will listen to our community, set clear priorities and make sure public resources are directed where they matter most. We will:
- Put students first by prioritizing budgets and plans that strengthen learning, student well-being and safe, effective schools.
- Build on Delta's strong record of fiscal responsibility with experienced, steady leadership and clear priorities.
- Make spending easier to understand by providing plain-language information about budgets, major projects and results.
- Listen regularly to families, staff, students and community partners and use what we hear to inform decisions.
- Build the conversation all year. Engage in more meaningful two way conversations with families, staff, students and community partners throughout the year to share ideas, ask questions and help shape decisions.
- Plan ahead with a long-range facilities strategy focused on safe, accessible, energy-efficient and modern learning spaces.
- Invest wisely in staff and student supports including professional learning, classroom resources and the services students need to succeed.
Our goal is simple: make smart choices with public money and make sure those choices deliver better results for students.
Belonging Isn't Optional - It's Essential
We believe schools should be places where every student and staff member feels safe, seen and respected. When students feel they belong, they learn better, stay longer and achieve more. We are committed to building learning environments that celebrate every background, foster belonging and make inclusion a lived reality.
Our Action Plans
Belonging Isn't Optional. It's Essential.
Every student and staff member should feel safe, seen, respected and able to be themselves at school. When students feel they belong, they are more likely to learn, participate and succeed. A One Delta School Board team will keep building inclusive school communities where every student has the opportunity to thrive. We will:
- Make belonging, equity and inclusion a district priority and continue the work of the Justice and Equity Action Plan.
- Remove barriers to learning by directing supports and resources where students need them most.
- Build more inclusive classrooms with teaching, curriculum and school practices that reflect and respect our diverse communities.
- Strengthen mental health, disability and language supports so students can fully participate in school life.
- Support student voice and leadership, including student-led equity and anti-racism initiatives.
- Equip staff to create welcoming and accessible schools through ongoing professional learning and practical supports.
- Listen to families, community partners and staff and use evidence to identify gaps, measure progress and improve.
Our goal is simple: every student and staff member should know they belong at school. Every Student should have a fair opportunity to succeed.
